Agency Overview: The Safe Center LI, Inc. (TSCLI) is the leading provider of services to victims of interpersonal violence in Nassau County. The agency provides comprehensive services to victims and survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, human trafficking, and elder abuse. The Safe Center is a thought leader that seeks to develop and implement innovative interventions to meet the multifaceted needs of victims and survivors.

SUMMARY: The Director of Emergency Housing is responsible for the overall operations of The Safe Home including administrative tasks and oversight, facility management, staff supervision, client management and program implementation. Work functions are performed under the supervision and direction of the Senior Director of Hotline and Housing Services.

The Safe Home is a 17-bed home for individuals and families experiencing domestic violence and in need of safe housing, operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Services provided at The Safe Home include case management, advocacy, counseling, and crisis intervention.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Oversight of program operations, staff, facility management and client care.
  • Evaluate, revise, and provide recommendations around policies and procedures related to the Safe Home services.
  • Hiring, training and scheduling of staff.
  • Ensure compliance with Office of Children and Family Services regulations, including licensing and recertification.
  • Develop and maintain relations with local police, school, Department of Social Services, and community linkages.
  • Facilitate individual and group supervision, and staff meetings.
  • Represent the agency and Safe Home at internal and external meetings, committees, and trainings.
  • Collaboration with other agency departments.
  • Grant reporting and oversight of the agency’s client database system in relation to the Safe Home.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
  • Two years of relevant work/volunteer experience. This includes work with victims of domestic violence and/or the direct provision of human services and two years of college in related course of study.
  • Or four years of relevant work experience, one year of which must include supervisory experience in lieu of college course or degree.
  • Supervisory and progressive leadership experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with client centered and trauma informed services.
  • Familiarity with facilities management preferred.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours and provide shift coverage if needed.
  • Remain on-call after hours and weekends to respond via phone or in person at the Safe Home as needed.
  • Strong supervisory and communication skills.
  • Highly developed crisis intervention skills.
  • Ability to value diverse perspectives and treat all people with dignity and respect.
  • An unquestionable personal code of ethics, respecting diversity, and ability to build trust.
  • Creative problem solver with a strong strategic mindset.
  • Strong collaboration skills.
HOURS, COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
  • Full- time, exempt (35 hours per week)

  • Annual Salary: $75,000, additional $5,000 stipend if bilingual speaking
