Agency Overview: The Safe Center LI, Inc. (TSCLI) is the leading provider of services to victims of interpersonal violence in Nassau County. The agency provides comprehensive services to victims and survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, and human trafficking. Summary: The Court Advocate Supervisor will be responsible for providing trauma-informed advocacy to walk-in pro-se litigants at the Nassau County Family Court.  Occasionally, may need to travel to the Integrated Domestic Violence Court and other Nassau County Domestic violence Courts, as needed.  The Court Advocate Supervisor will provide information to pro-se litigants regarding the court process and procedures, answer general questions pertaining to filing family court petitions, in particular family offenses for orders of protection. This position will report directly to the Sr. Director of Legal Services.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Serve as a source of information on TSCLI’s overall services, in particular legal services, pro bono volunteer opportunities;  
  • Coordinate with the Sr. Director of Legal Services on establishing and strengthening relationships with the judiciary, court staff, pro bono court advocates and volunteers and TSCLI attorneys;
  • Coordinate with the Sr. Director of Legal Services with the placement of cases with TSCLI Attorneys and/or other providers;
  • Recruit court advocate volunteers, collaborate with other non-for-profit agencies, governmental agencies, legal service partners and other community leaders to provide service referrals;
  • Be the contact person for TSCLI staff;
  • Mentor, supervise, and train pro bono court volunteers and court advocates in Family Law;
  • Identify, analyze, and develop solutions that arise between hotline department, legal department and court advocates, whenever necessary;
  • Maintain and expand relationships with the judiciary, court staff, attorneys and pro-se litigants;
  • Organize and coordinate trainings for pro bono court advocates and attorneys by preparing and updating training materials; as well as facilitating trainings and special events whenever necessary;
  • Maintain, compile, and update case information in case management database and track statistics on pro-se litigants case referrals for grant reports;
  • Represent TSCLI Legal Department at outreach, recruitment, and community events;
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • Bachelor’s Degree and Paralegal certificate preferred;
  • 5-10 years work experience, preferably in a domestic violence, non-profit or in a legal setting preferred;
  • Knowledge and experience of Family Law;
  • Extensive understanding of domestic violence, stalking, sexual assault, crime victimization and resulting trauma, knowledge of victims’ rights and available resources;
  • Must have reliable transportation;
  • Proficient computer skills, Word, Excel, Outlook Office, and EmpowerDB;
  • Excellent organization skills, with the ability to prioritize, multitask and be detail- oriented;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, as well as oral and written communication skills. 
  • Bilingual English and Spanish preferred;
  • Familiarity with the institutional culture of the court system preferred;

HOURS, COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
  • Full-Time, 35 hours per week Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. in-person at Nassau County Family Court (may need to flex time to accommodate program needs);
  • Annual Salary: $42,000, $47,000, if bilingual;
  • Benefits: Health, dental and vision insurance, paid vacation, personal and sick days;
  • Access to National EAP services and self care activities through TSCLI;
  • Mileage reimbursement for agency related travel.
